The energiser supplies power to the electric fence. Having power on the fence ensures that the animals not only see the fence as a physical dividing line, it also poses a psychological barrier. After the first shock, animals will keep a distance from the fence instinctively. And electric fencing poses less risk of physical injury compared with other solutions such as barbed wire.

The amount of power you need for good electric fencing depends on the type of animal, length of the fence, type and number of conductors, and the field environment.

We usually advise an energiser that connects directly to mains power for permanent electric fencing. And, in general, we recommend batteries and wet cell batteries for mobile fencing, i.e. temporary or movable fences.
