Shearing sheep once a year is usually sufficient. An extra shave is often performed to prevent Myiasis. The sheep can be shaved or cut more easily if it has been warm for a few days. The skin fat will then become softer / more fluid, making the coat smoother. During shaving, the skin must be taut, so that there is less chance of injury.
